Climber rescued after fall on Stairway to Heaven

On Wednesday, December 22, 2021, at approximately 8:00 a.m., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a male who had witnessed a climber fall on the Stairway to Heaven. The climber had fallen approximately 15 feet and had landed on some rocks.

Rangers from City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks and members of Rocky Mountain Rescue Group responded. Rescuers stabilized the patient and then lowered her down to a stretcher. The 42-year-old female from Boulder was then carried to an ambulance which was stationed at the water tank at N.C.A.R. American Medical Response (AMR) transport her to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The rescue took approximately three hours.

Agencies assisting with this rescue included: Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, American Medical Response, Boulder County Parks and Open Space, and the Rocky Mountain Rescue Group.
