On Saturday, May 13, at approximately 4:30 a.m., deputies with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office were made aware of a possible drive-by shooting that had occurred in the area of the 2300 block of Flagstaff Road in unincorporated Boulder County, Colorado.

This area is also known as the Crown Rock Trailhead, part of the city of Boulder’s Open Space Mountain Parks. Deputies from the sheriff’s office, working in conjunction with officers from the Boulder Police Department, learned that two individuals had been shot by a passing vehicle while standing outside their parked vehicle.

The victims, a 17-year-old male and an 18-year-old male, are both from the Thornton, Colorado area. The 17-year-old victim sustained a serious injury to his leg that required surgery at a local emergency medical facility.

The 18-year-old victim had a minor injury and was treated and released from a local medical facility. Neither victim is being publicly identified at this time due to their ages and the ongoing investigation.

Interviews with the victims and witnesses led investigators to believe that an unknown make, model, or color sedan was possibly involved in the shooting.

Investigators are asking that any members of the public who witnessed unusual activity along Flagstaff Road on Saturday morning, specifically between the hours of 3:30-4:00 a.m., please contact the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 303-441-3674 or via email at: [email protected]. The public may also submit tips through Colorado Crime Stoppers at 800-222-TIPS (8477).
