The process to annex a 7.6-acre property in southern Longmont is moving forward.
As part of the consent agenda, Longmont City Council approved the first reading of the annexation ordinance on Tuesday. The property still needs to be approved with public hearings on the statutory compliance and annexation ordinances scheduled for Dec. 20.
The annexation, known as Westview Acres, is on the west side of Airport Road between Pike Road and Highway 119. The parcel would include 22 lots for single family detached residences, including two existing residences on the property.
The Planning and Zoning Commission reviewed the annexation and zoning agreement on Aug. 17 and voted 4-1 to recommend conditional approval. Conditions included drainage concerns and providing a landscape buffer and privacy fencing along the north, west and south sides of the property including fencing being installed prior to construction.
Christopher McKay, who lives near the proposed annexation spot, spoke up during the meeting asking the city council to consider reducing the density of the annexation to better fit the surrounding area.
“I understand that Longmont needs housing of all types, when this land is annexed and developed, I’m just asking that it’s done in a way that’s consistent and complementary with what’s already existed and built there and has been approved over the years by the city,” he said.
Council did not comment on the annexation, which will be up for another vote and public hearing in two weeks.
