The City of Longmont introduced a new on-demand transportation service, RIDE Longmont, on December 9, 2024, and since its launch, the service has provided more than 10,000 rides. The ride-sharing service can transport citizens anywhere in the city for $2 (or $1 for students, seniors, and those with disabilities).
RIDE Longmont vehicles are branded minivans that will pick up passengers at their request via an app, similar to Uber. For those without smartphones, rides can be booked via phonecall (970-538-9097). The vans pick up passengers at the nearest street corner to where the ride was requested, the directions to which the app will provide.
Kalie Fallon, the City of Longmont’s transportation planner, told Colorado Hometown Weekly that “the service has been very popular and is exceeding expectations.”
Thomas Honohan, a driver for RIDE Longmont, told Colorado Hometown Weekly that he has noticed an uptick in Longmont high school students using the service to get home after school.
The service is provided through Via Transportation, a company that provides transportation like RIDE Longmont around the world. The goal of Via’s microtransit is to be efficient, flexible, and cost effective for users.
The service is available for citizens from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Mondays through Saturdays, and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Riders younger than 13 years of age must be accompanied by an adult.
