YWCA Boulder County is partnering with the Women’s Collaborative of Boulder County to host a Reproductive Rights Rally on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in front of the Boulder County Courthouse, 1300 Pearl St. in Boulder. A sister event is scheduled in Longmont during the same time at the corner of Sixth Avenue and Main Street.

The event will highlight the Colorado Reproductive Health, Rights & Justice (CO RHRJ) Coalition’s upcoming ballot initiative. The initiative, named Initiative 89, would protect abortion access by changing the Colorado constitution to recognize the right to abortion, a news release from the YMCA states.

The initiative would also prevent state and local governments from impeding or denying a person’s right to an abortion. It would also support abortion healthcare coverage under Colorado insurance plans, the news release states.

“The proposed initiative aimed at guaranteeing abortion access in Colorado is something we’ve been working on for a long time,” said Debbie Pope, CEO, YWCA Boulder County. “We believe in reproductive and fundamental rights for all, and protecting access to abortion is a critical component of that.”

The initiative still needs around 185,000 signatures to make it onto the ballot. A petition will be available at the events for those who wish to sign it.

The event is free and registration is required: https://bit.ly/Jan2024COReproFreedomRally
