Prescribed fire is a tool used in the elimination of noxious weeds and for vegetative health.

Over the coming weeks, the City of Longmont will conduct prescribed burns on a handful of Open Space properties and one golf course. Prescribed fire is a tool used in the elimination of noxious weeds, improvement of water delivery and conveyance, enhancement of vegetative health and diversification of habitat. Prescribed burns are anticipated to take place at Ute Creek Golf Course, Bogott Open Space, Adrian Open Space, Boulder Creek Estates Open Space and the Sherwood Open Space.

Specific notice of burn scheduling will be provided on site and to homes directly surrounding the areas selected. Prescribed burns are always weather dependent and based on careful observation of moisture and wind speeds. For all prescribed fires, the City's Natural Resources Land Management Team works under the direction of the Longmont Fire Department Wildland Crew. Due to safety concerns, we also ask that the general public not try to observe these operations and stay well back from any burn area.
