A tragic multi-vehicle crash in Aurora early Saturday morning has left one man dead and another facing multiple charges.
The crash, which involved three vehicles, occurred at the intersection of Tower Road and 40th Avenue.
Aurora Police have confirmed the driver at fault will be arrested once released from the hospital.
Deadly Collision at Busy Intersection
The crash happened around 7:15 a.m. when a black Jeep was speeding northbound on Tower Road.
The Jeep collided with a Chevrolet, causing the Jeep to flip and roll over.
The impact left significant damage to both vehicles and caused debris to fly into a nearby Subaru.
The Subaru sustained minor damage, but its driver was fortunate to escape without injuries.
Police reported that the collision occurred during the early morning hours, with visibility and road conditions appearing normal.
Victim Identified in Tragic Wreck
The Jeep and Chevrolet drivers were both transported to hospitals in the vicinity for treatment.
Regrettably, the Chevrolet driver, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital due to his injuries.
The driver of the Jeep, a 22-year-old man, survived the collision but had non-life-threatening injuries.
The Subaru driver was unharmed and declined medical attention at the site.
This incident contributes to a concerning pattern of fatal accidents that involve irresponsible driving in the vicinity.
Jeep Driver Faces Arrest After Hospital Release
Aurora Police identified the Jeep driver as Alexis Ayala Gutierrez of Denver.
Investigators determined he was responsible for the crash due to his excessive speed.
Following his release from the hospital, Gutierrez will be taken into custody on an outstanding warrant and additional charges stemming from the collision.
The warrant, issued in Jefferson County, relates to a previous careless driving conviction.
It carried a $10,000 personal recognizance bond. Police have stated that further charges are likely once the investigation into Saturday's crash is complete.
Police Investigate Speed and Intoxication
Authorities are thoroughly investigating the crash to determine all contributing factors.
Speeding has already been confirmed as a cause, and police are also looking into the possibility of intoxication.
Evidence collected at the scene will play a critical role in shaping the charges Gutierrez faces.
Northbound Tower Road was closed for nearly seven hours as investigators processed the scene.
The closure caused traffic delays in the area, but police reopened the road at around 1:50 p.m.
Aurora Police are urging drivers to adhere to speed limits and exercise caution, especially in areas prone to heavy traffic.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of reckless driving and its life-altering consequences.
Further updates on the investigation and victim details are expected in the coming days.
