A pool party hosted by Out Boulder County for the LGBTQ and allied communities is scheduled for Sunday, July 18 at Sunset Pool in Longmont from 6:45-9:30 p.m.
The Pool Party is a sober event and is a potluck. “We have the facility to ourselves, which includes slides, diving boards, a sandy beach, a grassy lawn and lots of room for socializing for those who don’t want to swim,” according to the Out Boulder County newsletter.
A $10 suggested donation will benefit the Sara Thompson Magical Mermaid Scholarship but no one will be turned away, according to the newsletter. You can make a donation at: https://givebutter.com/pool-party-2021.
“The pool party is an important gathering that is geared towards trans people and as well as our sober community to create a space where these folks can feel safe and welcome while enjoying an evening by the pool,” the newsletter states.
February, “a fabulous community member and regular OBC volunteer who identifies as trans and sober” indicates how important the pool party is to Out Boulder County, the newsletter states.
“It means that there is a space that we can just exist in that’s for us and celebrates us in our bodies and our minds,” February said in the newsletter. “A whole person's celebration is really rare. There are so many times where we have to cut off parts of our trans identities to fill into cis heteronormative spaces, and there are also times when we have to hide our sobriety in spaces that are geared towards queer people. I love that overlap here.”
