Longmont firefighters work to extinguish a fire that started in the rooftop HVAC unit at O’Reilly Auto Parts on Friday, Feb. 26, 2021.

No one was hurt in fire Friday morning at O’Reilly Auto Parts but the business, at 700 Ken Pratt Blvd., is temporarily closed for repairs.

Longmont Fire responded to the fire at the auto parts store at 7:23 a.m., according to a post on the Longmont Fire, Police and Community Health and Resilience Facebook page.

No customers were in the store at the time of the fire, Patrick Kramer, Longmont Fire Services public information officer and firefighter engineer, said.

Store management did not comment on the fire and did not say if any employees were in the store when the fire started.

Kramer said it is unknown who called 911 to report the fire.

When they arrived, firefighters saw smoke coming from a  heating and air conditioning unit on the roof and from inside the building, he said.

The fire inside the building was extinguished within minutes but firefighters remained on the scene to contain flames that continued to extend to small confined spaces below the heating and air conditioning unit, according to the post.

The fire was completely extinguished by 10:15 a.m., Kramer said.

“Fortunately, the damage was minimal and contained to the HVAC unit and our fire crew quickly stopped it,” he said. “Because fire involved the air and heating unit on the roof, that was completely disabled.”

The damage to the HVAC unit caused the store to temporarily close until it is repaired or replaced, Kramer said. Store management did not comment on when it plans to reopen, but Kramer said it is expected to reopen in the next few days.
