For a second year, Nepali Jatra is scheduled to take place at the Longmont Museum. On July 30, the festival celebrating several sub-groups of the Nepalese culture will gather and participate in The Festival of Lights.
According to Sunanda Dangol, festival organizer, the event will include dancers, music and Nepalese art.
For Dangol the experience is more than an event, it is an opportunity to teach young Nepalese children the reason why these celebrations are held while inviting the Longmont community to participate. These events also provide an opportunity for people within the Nepalese community to gather and share their rich and diverse cultural traditions with each other and the public.
The word ‘Jatra’ means festival in Nepalese. Each year the event changes to highlight a new cultural celebration from a different part of the overall culture, Dangol said.
The event will take place on July 30 from 1-5 p.m. at the Longmont Museum located at 400 Quail Road. The event is open to anyone who would like to join in on the celebration.
