Seventy-five years have passed since the establishment of diplomatic relations between the U.S. and Nepal. To commemorate the occasion, the Nepali Jatra event will be held at the Boulder County Fairgrounds on September 1 from 3-6 p.m.
Event organizer, Vijay Raj Sharma, said the U.S. is a home away from home for Nepali immigrants. The event was organized with the desire to highlight Nepali culture to the local community and foster a sense of togetherness for local Nepali immigrants.
“We are excited that we, as Nepali Americans, want to celebrate this event and learn how we can contribute to the strengthening of the relationship between the two countries,” Sharma said.
The first day of the event will begin at 2 p.m. with a parade and opening ceremony. It will include traditional dances from several ethnic groups and the night will end with a DJ performance.
On the second day, attendees will listen to four forums on different subjects beginning at 10 a.m. — from dissecting the history behind the countries’ diplomatic relations to diving into immigration strategies that will advance both countries. A Nepali artist will play a concert in the evening.
Authentic Nepali food will be available for purchase and art exhibitions will be scattered throughout both days.
The lively event is free to the public, except for two entertainment programs held in the evenings.
