Boulder County’s only sexual violence resource center will be hosting speakers, artists and performers to celebrate its 50th anniversary this month.
Moving to End Sexual Assault’s 14th annual Brave, Bold and Beautiful fundraising event will also celebrate the organization’s 50th anniversary at 5:30 p.m. on Oct. 20 at Nissi’s Entertainment and Event Center in Lafayette. MESA provides support and services to survivors of sexual violence in Boulder County through a 24-hour hotline, in-person support, victim advocacy and specialized support groups.
International expert Anne Munch will be the featured speaker, and award-winning writer and activist Dominique Christina will be the slam poet emcee.
Munch has over three decades of experience as a prosecutor, subject matter expert and victim’s advocate specializing in domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. She has also served as director for both the San Miguel Resource Center and the Ending Violence Against Women Project, developing and delivering extensive trainings on crimes of violence against women across the world as well as in all 22 judicial districts in Colorado.
Christina holds five national slam poetry titles, including a 2011 championship at the National Poetry Slam and the 2012 and 2014 championships at the Women of the World Slam. Christina is a writer and actor for the HBO series “High Maintenance,” a featured performer at the 2021 Tribeca Film Festival and author of four books of poetry and essays on politics, feminism and civil rights. She is also the niece of Carlotta Wall LaNier, one of the “Little Rock Nine.”
The Rebecca Folsom Band will round out the evening with energetic live music. Guests will be able to bid on silent auction packages as well.
Brave, Bold and Beautiful is MESA’s premier fundraising event. All proceeds will benefit the Boulder County nonprofit, and tickets can be purchased at www.movingtoendsexualassault.org.
