Man arrested for distributing child abuse material

A 28-year-old Boulder man is in Boulder County Jail facing charges for possessing and distributing child abuse material, or CSAM, on a social messaging application.

Alexander Howe resides in the 800 block of W. Moorehead Circle in Boulder, according to a news release. Howe is being held without bond.

An investigation began after the Colorado Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, or ICAC,  received information about the distribution of CSAM from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. A search warrant was executed on July 7 at Howe’s residence where additional evidence was located, the news release states.

No other details about the investigation were available Friday.

Boulder County Sheriff’s Office houses the local members of the Colorado ICAC task force, composed of Boulder County Digital Forensics Lab investigators from Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Longmont Department of Public Safety, Boulder Police Department and the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office.

Howe is facing three counts of sexual exploitation of child-possession with intent to distribute, Class 3 felonies, and two counts of sexual exploitation of a child-possession, one Class 4 felony and one Class 5 felony, according to the news release.

Agencies who assisted with the investigation include the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office, Boulder County District Attorney’s Office, Boulder Police Department and Longmont Department of Public Safety, the news release states.
