Today is the deadline for local artists to submit a piece of art for the Longmont Firehouse Art Center Auction.

Executive director Elaine Waterman and local artist Jon Fukuda are organizing an emergency online art auction to support families affected by the Marshall and Middle Fork fires, Fukuda said in an email.

"We really hope that art can serve the needs of those affected by this tragedy," Fukuda added.

Currently 20 pieces of art of all varieties have been submitted. Those pieces have an estimated value of $7,500, however, Fukuda said "auctions can sometimes surprise you." The team at the Firehouse Art Center hope to bring in at least $5,000.

There are no exclusions on the types of art people can donate, artists simply need to email Waterman at [email protected] for more information on how to get their art included in the auction. The deadline for submissions is 7 p.m. tonight.

The bidding begins in two days from now, on Jan. 6 and can be viewed here. Donations are also accepted on the website.
