In November 2018, the voters of Longmont voted in support of a bond issue to replace Fire Station 2.
In an effort to maintain coverage in the northeast corner of the city, it was determined that Fire Station 2 needs to remain near the Hover St. corridor near 17th St.
Certain criteria needed to be met to fulfill the needs of the fire station which included, but was not limited to, adequate size and configuration of the lot and accessibility to 17th or Hover.
The City of Longmont has found two adjacent lots along 17th Ave. across from the Federal Aviation Administration. Currently, these lots have existing homes, both built in the 1950s and serving as rental properties.
On Tuesday, July 23, the Longmont City Council passed R-2019-72 and R-3019-73 authorizing the Mayor, Brian Bagley, to sign a contract to buy and sell real estate and the water rights.
The total costs for the land purchase for Fire Station 2 comes to $1.2 million.
