The Longmont Airport Airshow and Expo was a prominent event in Longmont that took place every other year until the pandemic hit. Last held in 2018, the event will return this fall.
When the airshow first came to Longmont it was more or a pilot fly-in and trades show, said Melinda Jordan, volunteer and event coordinator. Trainings were also available. Over time, it added the airshow component that included local planes and a new theme each year that focused on the past.
This year the airshow will focus on the future of aerospace with a partnership with the St. Vrain Valley Schools Innovation Center, Spartan College of Aviatio, Wings over the Rockies: Exploration of Flight and other area organizations that align with aerospace.
The theme was set to encourage more interest in aerospace careers and hobbies, Jordan said.
“We are really looking to the future and trying to fuel the pipeline for pilots and the interest in information about new forms of flight,” Jordan said.
The event is scheduled for Sept. 14 from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The day will begin with a pancake breakfast. Partons are welcome to peruse booths, planes and exhibits throughout the day. Jordan is expecting the airshow to begin at 11 a.m.
