Letters of Thanks: Thankful for Community

I can tell you that because of your support we’ve only just begun to make Boulder County and Colorado better places to live for LGBTQ+ people.

A theme of immense gratitudehas emerged from nonprofit organizations throughout Longmont throughout the year and the pandemic. In a series of letters throughout the day, Longmont nonprofit organizations are sending out their heartfelt thanks to the Longmont community for the support they have received. The Longmont Leader accepts contributions, photos, and op-eds for publication from community members, business leaders and public officials on local topics. Publication will be at the discretion of the editor and published opinions do not represent the views of the Longmont Leader or its staff. To submit a contribution, email [email protected].

Dear LGBTQ+ and Allied Community,

Today, we are deeply thankful for our community. For more than 20 months, we have been in a global pandemic that has taught us all unexpected lessons about ourselves, each other and society. When we were forced to ask who to count on in difficult times, two things became clear: the community can depend on Out Boulder County and Out Boulder County can depend on the community. While many organizations struggled through the challenges of COVID-19, Out Boulder County was able to quickly add programs and activities to support the LGBTQ+ community.

We were able to continue to deliver our life-saving programming and advocacy services while adding new programs such as The Point, a mental health program for LGBTQ+ people on Medicare or Medicaid or who are uninsured. We were able to meet the pandemic head-on for our community and provide direct aid to those who needed it most. Through our equity clinics, we continue to get vaccines and boosters to members of the LGBTQ+ community throughout Boulder County.

Thanks to you, Out Boulder County has added staff and programs to meet growing community needs, but our biggest news won’t be public until early December. While we continue to face the realities of living and working in a global pandemic, I can tell you that because of your support we’ve only just begun to make Boulder County and Colorado better places to live for LGBTQ+ people.

With gratitude,

Mardi Moore and the staff of Out Boulder County
