Lyons Elevating All Fund (LEAF) is conducting a food drive from Monday April 28 to Friday May 2 with the support of the Lyons Backer Football Club (LBFC), a middle school football program in Lyons. During the food drive, drop bins will be located at several locations throughout Lyons. Cemex and LBFC will be matching a portion of the donations that are received during the food drive.
“Supporting LEAF’s food pantry through this community effort is one of the ways we show up for our neighbors in Lyons.,” said Michael Clausen, Cemex Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at the Lyons Cement Plant. “We’re proud to match a portion of the value of food donated and to team up with the next generation of leaders from the Lyons Backer Football Club to help ensure no family in our community goes without food and everyday essentials.”
LEAF distributes about 6,000 pounds of food every month and serves approximately 40 to 50 households on a weekly basis. The organization provided a list of nonperishable food and hygiene items that people can drop off at the bins located throughout town. This includes “canned goods (soup, chili, stew), snacks (crackers, cookies, popcorn), flavored rice (pilaf, long grain and wild, etc.), cereal, juice boxes, fruit and applesauce cups; paper products (toilet paper, paper towels and tissues); and personal items (shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, lotion, disposable razors and feminine products).”
In addition to the physical drop-off locations, people can provide donations by purchasing items using an Amazon link. The drop-off boxes will be at the following locations from Monday April 28 to Friday May 2.
