A well-known fixture in Boulder County’s open space and fire recovery efforts will be picked Tuesday as the county’s Parks and Open Space Director.

Therese Glowacki will be appointed by the Boulder County Commissioners at Tuesday’s 10:30 a.m. business meeting, according to a Boulder County news release. Glowacki will begin her new job Aug. 23. She is replacing Eric Lane, who resigned as Parks and Open Space director in April.

Glowacki was picked over Kurt Carlson, the Open Space and Trails Operations Manager for Adams County, and Doug Romig, deputy director for Polk County Conservation in Granger, Iowa.

The news release states that many Boulder County residents know Glowacki as the division manager of resource management for Boulder County Open Space. In her job, Glowacki has been responsible for leading the division and coordinating integrated restoration projects in forestry, grasslands, stream, and wetland ecosystems, including emergency restoration for Cal-Wood, Four Mile Overland and Walker Ranch fires, and the 2013 flood, the news release states.

Glowacki brings experience in financial and personnel management at Boulder County, and is familiar with the department’s success and challenges, processes and procedures, and internal and external partnerships, the news release states.

“She has a strong vision for the future of Parks & Open Space and will immediately and effectively take over important efforts related to strategic planning, environmental stewardship, and equity and inclusion, all while continuing to guide the department in providing excellent public service safely during this pandemic,” the news release states.

Prior to joining Boulder County in 1999, Glowacki served in the United State Peace Corps as an associate director and forestry specialist.  She has a bachelor’s degree in biology and master of science degree in forest management, the news release states. Outside of work, she enjoys playing and performing with her all women’s marimba band, hiking open spaces and traveling with family.

“I am very excited to lead the department in our diversity and climate action goals, while supporting the bedrock work of the department providing the best public service in all we do,” Glowacki said in the news release.
