Midterm elections are upon us once again. This year, voters will need to pay close attention to which district they will vote in due to redistricting.

Every 10 years, Census data is taken and states draw new boundaries for voting districts so each has roughly the same number of residents. The federal government also stipulates that these boundaries cannot be redrawn in a manner that discriminates based on race or ethnicity.

Data from the Census was slow to be released due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In 2020 — when the Census was taken — Longmont recorded a population of 98,885 people. City officials have estimated that the population will hit 100,000 this year.

The Census also recorded population numbers along the Front Range to have increased from 4,333,742 in 2010 to 5,055,344 in 2022.

The rise in population forced Boulder County to redrawn district boundaries. The reorganization of districts allowed the county to reduce the number of precincts and renumber them to eliminate confusion, according to the Boulder County website.

Voters should be aware that they may not be part of the district they have voted in for many years and new names may appear on their ballot. It is important to know who is running to represent you but first you need to figure out which precinct you are in.

Boulder County residents can find their precinct via this map. of Boulder County precincts. This year the number of precincts in the county was reduced and renumbered to eliminate some confusion.

Longmont precincts in Boulder County are indicated on this map and Weld County can find a map of your precincts here. Depending on the precinct a voter lives in, determines which candidates a voter will see on their ballot.

Voters don't need to figure out where they lie on the new precinct map. For a quick look at what your ballot will look like, click here.

Boulder County is in Congressional District 2. According to Mircalla Wozniak with the Boulder County Clerks and Recorder's Office, Boulder County was slightly adjusted to keep the entire county within one congressional district. Weld County residents are split and may be in either Districts 2 or 8.

For Colorado State Senate, Boulder County is made up of District 15, District 17 and District 18.  Weld County residents located near Longmont can expect to vote in District 17 or District 23

Longmont residents can expect to vote in the Colorado State House District 11, District 12, District 19 or District 49.

Whichever precinct voters fall in this year, each will cast their votes on or by Election Day on Nov. 8. Ballots are expected to be mailed out on Oct. 17 to voters who register in time.
