NEWS RELEASE
CITY OF LONGMONT
******************************
Downtown Longmont is about to experience a tremendous transformation. Several public and private projects are starting soon, all with a goal of building a better, more vibrant City. These include:

  • Coffman Street Mobility Improvements: An extensive Complete Street project on Coffman between will bring the best of multimodal transportation – including pedestrian, bicycle, transit, and automobile access – into the core of the City.
  • 1st & Main Transit Station: This hub will provide convenient access to northern Colorado, metro Denver and Boulder; connect to future rail; and bring additional parking, housing and working space to our community.
  • Hotel Longmont: A downtown boutique hotel has been in community plans for almost fifty years. In 2024 it will break ground. In 2025 it will bring 84 rooms, a rooftop restaurant and meeting space into Downtown Longmont.
  • Safety & Justice Center: This building will see a complete rehabilitation, carrying out the 2018 voter-approved bond project.

In addition, private developers and private property owners are investing to rehab buildings and bring new restaurants and retail stores into the historic core of Longmont.

“After many years of proposals and planning we’re excited to see many Downtown Longmont projects break ground this year,” said City Manager Harold Dominguez. “With massive transportation initiatives and several public and private developments, we are committed to investing in the future of Longmont’s historic downtown.”

To learn more about these and other projects visit longmontcolorado.gov/transformation. This site will be updated frequently and will be augmented by news releases identifying both preconstruction activity and construction notices.

Updates on two of the projects, Coffman Street Mobility Improvements and Hotel Longmont, follow.

Coffman Street Mobility Improvements: Preconstruction Activity

The Coffman Street Mobility Improvements Project is planned to start in May-June and will be completed in phases over approximately two years. As a crucial preparatory step, a planned tree removal initiative is scheduled to start the week of March 11 and conclude by the end of March. A gas line relocation by Xcel Energy will follow in early April and is expected to be completed by mid-May.

The project design, developed with input from Coffman Street businesses, property owners and the public, includes removing a limited number of trees to accommodate new transit lanes, separated bicycle lanes and improved pedestrian sidewalks. To offset the removals, the project will plant new trees, pay into the City’s Tree Mitigation Fund and feature water-smart planting areas on each block to enhance the greenery. A detailed view of the plan can be seen on the project StoryMap at bit.ly/CoffmanStStoryMap. This interactive website provides a vision of what the project will look like when completed in early 2026.

Tree removal crews will be working in the area on Coffman Street between 6th Avenue and 9th Avenue from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sidewalks and parking near the tree removals will be temporarily closed and pedestrians will need to detour around construction areas.

Xcel Energy crews will be working in the area on Coffman Street between 2nd Avenue to 8th Avenue from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Lane closures and traffic impacts are expected, although thru traffic and access to driveways will still be maintained. A schedule and additional information can be found on the project website at bit.ly/CoffmanMobility.

Questions or concerns regarding the project can be directed to the project hotline at 720-432-7058 or [email protected].

Hotel Longmont: Preconstruction Activity

The 300 East Parking Lot, located at 300 Kimbark Street, is tentatively scheduled to close on the week of March 11 to begin work on Hotel Longmont. During construction, loading, unloading or drop off to businesses in the 300 East block of Main Street will be available via the alley. Parking is available in other City-owned lots, as well as The Spoke on Coffman parking garage, located on Coffman Street between 5th and 6th Avenues. (Free public parking is available on levels 2 and 3 for two hours on weekdays with no time limits on evenings and weekends.) For those that visit downtown often, parking permits are available for $10 per month at the Spoke. For more parking details, including a parking map, visit downtownlongmont.com/visit/parking.

For questions about the Hotel Longmont project, call the City of Longmont Planner on Duty at 303-651-8330 or email them at [email protected].

An open house, showcasing all the Downtown projects, will be scheduled in the coming months. At this event, more detailed timelines will be shared and staff will be available to answer questions.
