On February 24 around 2:40 p.m., people located near Folsom Parking Garage and the Champion Center in Boulder were told via emergency alert to shelter in place due to a large police presence in the area. CU Boulder reported that around 3:13 p.m., Colorado University Police Department was securing the Folsom Parking Garage, and at 3:29 p.m., the shelter in place was lifted.
Then, at 3:47 p.m., the Boulder Police Department issued a mandatory shelter in place order for the area of 40th and Table Mesa due to officer presence in the area. According to CU Boulder, BPD activated SWAT to take an armed male into custody. The university confirmed that the incident was connected to the initial emergency alert that CU Boulder issued at 2:40 p.m.
The university stated that there is no current threat to campus. Additional information about the identity of the armed man or about whether or not shots were fired has not yet been shared by BPD.
