A variety of factors have combined to move the opening of Longmont’s Costco warehouse store to spring 2023, say city officials.
Costco originally indicated the 150,000-square-foot store would open its doors to customers no later than July 2024. A projected start date was then set for the third quarter of 2023, said Dale Rademacher, special project assistant for the city of Longmont.
Now, Costco is saying the opening will be in spring 2023, Rademacher said. Longmont is deferring to Costco for construction updates but the early part of next year seems plausible for an opening, he said.
“Everything just worked out well,” Rademacher said. That includes cooperation between the city, Costco and the Golden family which owns the Costco site, he said.
Good weather also helped. Crews have already paved the parking lot and put in the landscaping, Rademacher said.
The store is being constructed on a 48-acre site near Harvest Junction South, at 205 Ken Pratt Boulevard.
Once built, the Costco facility is expected to generate $4.06 million in sales tax in its first full year of operation, according to the city..
City Manager Harold Dominguez said via email the early opening was the result of a “culmination of a number pieces.”
“1. Good design 2. Good project management 3. Good contractors 4. Good team work,” Dominguez said.
