The City of Longmont announced on April 22 that Coffman Street is fully open from 6th Avenue to 9th Avenue, which had previously been closed for construction related to the Coffman Street Mobility Improvements Project. The opening of this section of Coffman Street is a major milestone in the project, according to the city.
The Coffman Street Mobility Improvements Project is aimed at improving the safety and usability of Coffman Street for a variety of vehicles and pedestrians. Construction on Coffman Street started in June 2024. Phase two of construction (focused on east and west sides of the street) is expected to be completed by the end of the year, the city said, with final paving and landscaping expected to begin in early 2026.
The city said that the project has constructed new concrete sidewalks, bike lanes, pedestrian crosswalks, intersection signals, and more on this section of Coffman Street. Final paving, line painting, landscaping, and repairs are still needed between 6th and 9th Avenues, but the impacts to travelers will be minimal, the city said.
The northbound lanes of Coffman Street are still closed between 2nd Avenue and 6th Avenue. Construction is expected to move from the east side of Coffman Street to the west side later this spring, the city said, which will close the southbound lanes of Coffman Street between 2nd Avenue and 6th Avenue.
Last week, the Boulder County Clerk’s Office announced that Coffman Street in Longmont will be closed to north and south-bound traffic from 5th Avenue to 6th Avenue starting on April 17 and continuing for about five weeks. The clerk’s office said that citizens can access the parking lot at the St. Vrain Community Hub from Terry Street and advised that citizens give themselves “extra time to get to appointments there.”
