The National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for Broomfield, Longmont and surrounding communities from 11 a.m. - 9 p.m. today and a fire weather watch through Wednesday night due to high winds and low humidity.

Winds are forecasted to be 30-40 miles per hour with gusts up to 65 miles per hour with a relative humidity of 15-25%, according to the agency.

The warnings mean that any fires are likely to spread rapidly and any outdoor fires or activities that produce a spark should be avoided.

“A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior,” agency officials wrote.

This is a developing story and may be updated.
