Boulder County Sheriff Curtis Johnson announced on April 5 that this weekend’s polar plunge, which benefitted Special Olympics Colorado, raised $6,751.75 for the organization. Around 10 representatives of the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office dunked into the Boulder Reservoir on Saturday as part of the fundraiser. Water temperatures were colder than 50-degrees Fahrenheit.
The polar plunge is an annual nationwide event that brings together law enforcement, local organizations, and the community to raise money and awareness for Special Olympics Colorado. This was the 17th annual polar plunge event in Colorado.
Sheriff Johnson thanked fundraising contributors in a video posted by the BCSO on X after the event on Saturday.
“We’re just blessed to be out here supporting these athletes,” he said. He also said that fundraising efforts in Boulder broke this year’s goal of $85,000.
After dipping, Sheriff Johnson said the water was colder than he expected. “But we’re proud to support Special Olympics Colorado,” he said. “I’m glad we raised a lot of money and I’m happy to be out here with all of our law enforcement partners.”
