The Boulder Police Department investigated a report of threats made to Summit Middle School yesterday and announced that they determined the threats not to be credible at around 5 p.m. Out of an abundance of caution, the department said that there will be extra patrols at the school throughout the week.

Investigations into the threats made by a juvenile are ongoing. Officers interviewed the juvenile yesterday and confirmed that the child allegedly does not have access to dangerous items.

This appears to be the first announcement of a threat made on a Boulder Valley School District school during the 2024/2025 school year. However, according to FOX31, it’s “the latest in a slew of threats made against Colorado schools and districts so far [this school year.]”

On March 4, a student allegedly brought an improvised explosive device to Ponderosa High. A day earlier, police investigated a firearm report at Golden High, later identified as a cardboard prop. An armed carjacking also led to a Mapleton school lockdown. FOX31 said that Denver Public Schools, Englewood schools, Northridge High School in Greeley, Boulder schools, and the Lake County School District were all impacted at the beginning of this school year by threats of violence made on social media.
