Last Wednesday afternoon, a Boulder man went to the hospital with critical injuries after allegedly setting his jeep on fire and stabbing himself with scissors at the intersection of Kalmia Court and 28th Street. The man is still in critical condition as of Monday morning, but it is not known whether the critical injuries are from the fire or the stabbing.
Witnesses believe the man set himself on fire inside of his jeep, which also had his dog inside. The man got out of the vehicle and attempted to stab a pedestrian with scissors before he stabbed himself. Boulder Fire-Rescue arrived on the scene and quickly extinguished the fire on the man’s jeep.
The Boulder Police Bomb Squad was also dispatched to the scene because a propane tank was inside the blazing jeep. The dog was released from the vehicle when a pedestrian opened the door. The dog was caught and given to Boulder Police Animal Protection officers for treatment.
The man allegedly sustained life-threatening injuries. No potential criminal charges were mentioned by a Boulder Police Department press release. The department is still investigating the case and encourages anyone with information to contact Detective John Sailor at 303-441-1830.
