BOULDER - The body that was found on Saturday morning by City of Boulder Open Space and Mountain Parks rangers near the 40-mile mark of Boulder Canyon was identified by the Boulder County Coroner’s office on Tuesday evening as 18-year-old Megan Trussell. Before the official identification was made, the public speculated that the deceased was Trussell, who was reported missing on February 12.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s office announced that the coroner’s office conducted an autopsy yesterday and it did not appear that “there is, or was, a threat to the community.” The sheriff’s office said that additional investigation will be conducted and the Boulder County Coroner’s Office will conduct additional testing, as well. The final cause of death will be determined by the Boulder County Coroner’s Office once all studies have been completed.

Resources for grieving CU Boulder students were shared in a statement made by the CU Boulder Police Department, including information about the university’s counseling services and the Office of Victim Assistance.

“Megan was a beloved member of our community and we are heartened by the stories of Megan’s spirit and warmth that have been shared by friends and family,” said Dr. D’Andra Mull, vice chancellor for student affairs at CU Boulder. “Loss reminds us of the deep connections we share. Buffs, please continue to take care of yourself and others and reach out to campus resources when you need additional support. We are here for you.”
