Boulder County commissioners are seeking public input on who will fill the soon-to-be-vacant Regional Transportation board position held by Judy Lubow, whose second four-year term in the District I seat on the board expires at year’s end.
Nine people applied to fill the vacancy, and conducted videotaped interviews with eight of them after one applicant withdrew from consideration, according to a news release. Using input from the public solicited in September, the commissioners selected five questions to ask each of the candidates. The same five questions were used in all eight interviews, most of which were shorter than 30 minutes, according to the release.
The eight candidates are Broomfield residents David Beacom, Tijani "T.J." R. Cole, Erik Davidson and Austin Ward, and Longmont residents Danielle Holmes, Bo Shaffer, outgoing state Rep. Jonathan Singer and Kristian Vaswig.
Commissioners are asking the public to review letters of interest submitted by the candidates and their videotaped interviews and to provide feedback via an online comment form by 4 p.m. Thursday. Commissioners will deliberate and select the final candidates during a virtual meeting on Oct. 27.
No candidates for the seat qualified for the Nov. 3 election after Austin Ward did not submit enough valid signatures to appear on the ballot.
District I consists of the eastern portion of Boulder County including most of Longmont, along with Lafayette and Erie, Broomfield, and parts of unincorporated Adams and Weld counties. State law requires the county with the highest number of eligible electors within the district — in this case, Boulder County — fill a vacancy via appointment.
RTD has asked commissioners to fill the vacancy on or before Nov. 3 so the newly appointed District I member can participate in on-boarding and swearing-in activities with newly elected or appointed representatives from other open RTD districts, according to the release.
