Alex Kalkhofer announced on March 2 that he is running for one of two at-large seats on the Longmont City Council. Kalkhofer is 38 years old, works as a senior logistics manager for Teledoc Health, is the Chair of Longmont’s Community Action Program Board, and is a member of Longmont’s Transportation Advisory Board. This is his first time running for public office.

Kalkhofer said that he is “committed to shaping a vibrant and inclusive future for [Longmont],” and the slogan that appears on his website and campaign announcements is “A Strong Longmont for All.” His main goals are to address issues relating to housing affordability, transportation, and community growth.

Some of Kalkhofer’s goals include working to remove barriers for affordable housing development while preserving existing affordable options, implementing neighborhood traffic mitigation programs that protect residential areas, expanding business support beyond downtown to all Longmont neighborhoods, and maintaining Longmont’s unique identity while accommodating thoughtful growth.

“We must address these issues while preserving the character and quality of life that make our city special,” he said in his campaign mission statement. “I believe in a vision that balances growth with community needs, focusing on practical solutions that work for everyone.”

Kalkhofer and his wife Emily have lived in Longmont since 2008. They have two children who are enrolled in Longmont’s public school system.

In addition to the two at-large seats, the upcoming Regular Municipal Election on November 4 will also include races for the positions of mayor and Ward 2 representative on the Longmont City Council.

Current at-large councilmembers whose seats are up for election are Councilmember Shiquita Yarbrough, who is not term limited and could run again, and Councilmember Aren Rodriguez, who is term limited. Jake Marsing has also announced his candidacy for one of the two at-large seats.
