A ribbon cutting ceremony was held on the 30th of October at the home of the Longmont Performing Arts Center, located at 513 Main St., to celebrate the opening of the New Trojan Movie House in the same shared location.
Representing the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce, Scott Cook presented Faye Lamb, the president of the Longmont Theater Company, with a plaque conferring membership on the New Trojan Movie House.
The late Richard Klein purchased the then Fox Theater in the early 1960s and had always wanted the space to be shared between cinema and theater, and it took several decades before his dream reached fruition. Now, in addition to successful live theater productions throughout the year, the Trojan will be presenting interesting, perhaps unique, cinematic offerings, alternating with the live-theater shows.
Lamb mentions that Klein's grandson, Joe, works in the movie distribution business and has been instrumental in helping the New Trojan Movie House acquire the rights to show movies on its new screen.
The 1931 versions of both Dracula and Frankenstein were shown the week of Halloween, while the showing over the first weekend in November is the Oscar-winning film, Babette’s Feast. The audience was treated after the cutting ceremony with a six minute, locally produced film called, Married and Dead, which fit in very nicely with the Halloween theme of the week.
