Longmonters lined up outside Costco for its grand opening on Thursday.
The 152,000-square-foot warehouse at 205 E. Ken Pratt Blvd. is the 15th Costco location in Colorado. Previously, Longmont’s nearest Costco was about 18 miles southwest in Thornton.
The location has a gas station, bakery, meat, produce, deli with rotisserie chicken, optical department with an independent doctor of optometry, pharmacy, tire center, hearing aid center, food court and beer and wine.
“We are thrilled to be bringing Costco’s low warehouse prices to the residents of Longmont,” Warehouse Manager Jeff Scheidemantle said in a release. “They have been asking us to open here for a long time, and we already have made an impact on the local job market. We look forward to contributing to the community in many ways.”
The Costco is expected to bring as much as $4.06 million in new sales tax in the store’s first year of operation. With the project, the city approved incentives for the store worth more than $12 million.
In a budget update to Longmont City Council on Tuesday, Chief Financial Officer Jim Golden said the city did not budget for sales tax revenues from Costco for 2023 as, at the time, it was unknown when it would open.
“It will certainly make a difference,” Golden said.
Gold Star and Business Membership will cost $60 a year, including one free Household Card. The Executive Membership upgrade fee is an additional $60 a year for Business or Gold Star Members.
The location will be open 10 a.m.-8:30 p.m. Mondays-Fridays, 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Sundays.
