Letter: Longmont City Council Approves Building at an "Alarming Level"

"Can we expect these congested living conditions to mimic the potential for a repeated Marshall Fire, or the current Los Angeles disaster?"

The Longmont Leader received a letter to the editor from Norman C. Gee concerning the Longmont City Council's upcoming vote on the Quail Road project.

I would like to urge the Longmont City Council to consider the upcoming vote on the Quail Road project. The excessive building approved by the city council has reached an alarming level. It has been suggested that the council is ignoring the concerns of Longmont locals and accepting financial direction from the state government.

The overwhelming traffic destined for these neighborhoods is an unquestioned hazard to children. Can we expect these congested living conditions to mimic the potential for a repeated Marshall Fire, or the current Los Angeles disaster? The Denver Gazette published a sobering warning on January 26 about the possible wildfire hazard to Denver. Is Longmont paying attention?

We did not move to Longmont to find ourselves living in Manhattan. Will residents soon find themselves walking out their front door to views of one congested apartment building after another and hearing the noise of constant traffic surrounding their homes? Can we no longer expect any decent level of peace and quiet in our neighborhoods?

As the city council chases after state funding tied to housing construction, are they aware they were not appointed to blatantly ignore the welfare of Longmont residents for the sake of financial gain?

It appears the council is detached from the distrust growing at the grass root level throughout all sections of the city. Expect this disregard for voter concerns to become an explosive political issue in November.

Sincerely,

Norman C. Gee
