A Longmont man was arrested on Tuesday for possessing and distributing child sexual abuse material on social media.
The Colorado Internet Crimes Against Children, or ICAC, Task Force was alerted to the material through the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
According to Detective Jason Oehlkers, child pornography photos have metadata attached to it which can help officers trace which IP address it came from. This allows the local ICAC agency to determine if there is enough evidence for a search warrant for the IP owner's physical address, he said.
On Jan. 26, ICAC officers executed a search warrant for the home of Juan Ramon Aranda. During the search, they discovered other evidence that Aranda was in possession of child sexual abuse material.
Aranda was arrested on Feb. 7 and was taken to the Boulder County Jail. He was denied bond and has been charged with sexual exploitation of a child-distribution which is a class 3 felony and sexual exploitation of a child-possession which is a class 5 felony.
