Three men are facing serious charges in connection to a rolling gunfight that happened in Aurora earlier this year.
The incident, which took place on July 28, endangered several lives, including an Aurora police officer.
Investigators have arrested the suspects, but the case remains under active investigation.
Details of the Incident
The shooting unfolded near South Havana Street and East Idaho Place in Aurora.
Police described it as a "rolling gunfight" between a black SUV and a white pickup truck.
The exchange of gunfire caught six people in the crossfire, creating a chaotic and dangerous situation.
Among those affected was an Aurora patrol officer who was in a marked car at the time.
The officer heard the gunshots and believed his vehicle was struck.
About ten minutes later, a bystander walking nearby was taken to the hospital after being hit by a bullet.
Shell casings were also found in the area as investigators worked to piece together the events.
Arrests and Charges
Police arrested Jose Daniel Gimenez-Chacin, 23, and Alonzo Lara, 29, in October.
By November, they identified a third suspect, Yilbert Fransua Maldonado-Moncada, who was already in custody with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
All three suspects are now charged in Arapahoe District Court.
They face six counts of attempted first-degree murder, five counts of attempted first-degree assault, and one count of first-degree assault.
Bond amounts for the suspects range from $250,000 to $750,000, with all three still in custody.
Ongoing Investigation
The investigation into the rolling gunfight is still active, and authorities are continuing their work to gather more details.
Evidence collected so far includes shell casings found along the 1500 block of South Havana Street, helping to map out the crime scene.
Aurora police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
