After distributing more than 2,000 COVID-19 vaccines and 200,000 COVID-19 tests, the free testing and vaccination sites at the Boulder County Fairgrounds will be shutting down by the end of this month.
The vaccine clinic operations will end 6 p.m. March 20, and testing will end 6 p.m. March 31.
The drive through vaccination clinic at the fairgrounds opened in January to meet the demand for COVID-19 vaccinations, driven by the rapid rise of cases due to the spread of the omicron variant. Boulder County Public Health operated the location in partnership with Nomi Health, providing 2,071 COVID vaccines including 644 first doses and 1,427 booster doses, according to the health department.
The fairgrounds have served as a drive through COVID-19 testing site since October 2020 as a partnership between Boulder County Public Health, Mako Medical and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment. The health department said over 200,000 COVID-19 tests have been administered at the site.
“We are grateful for these partnerships, and for the commitment of Boulder County residents to getting vaccinated and tested to protect the safety of the most vulnerable community members,” Boulder County Public Health Emergency Manager Chris Campbell said in a release.
Several sites across Boulder County will continue to offer vaccinations and testing. A complete list of vaccine providers can be found at www.boco.org/covidvaccines. For a list of testing facilities, visit boco.org/covid19testing.
As of Monday, more than 308,000 community members, or 98% of the eligible population in the county ages 5 and older, have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, according to Boulder County Public Health.
The health department encouraged members of the public to get fully vaccinated, when eligible, and stay up to date on COVID shots. In addition to getting fully vaccinated, Boulder County Public Health offered the following recommendations for members of the public to stay safe:
- Wear a snugly fit medical grade face covering while in close proximity to individuals at high risk for severe disease, hospitalization, and death or in settings that primarily serve individuals who are not up to date or at high risk for severe disease.
- Wear a snugly fit medical grade mask when in contact with anyone who is at high risk for more severe disease from COVID-19 infections or who may have frequent close contact with someone who is at higher risk for more severe disease.
- People who are not up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations should continue to wear a snugly fit medical grade mask while around others while in close proximity to others while Boulder County remains in substantial or high transmission.
- Get tested if you will be close to people who are at high risk for severe disease, hospitalization or death.
