Over 10,000 runners filled Denver’s Washington Park this Thanksgiving for the 51st Mile High United Way Turkey Trot.

The 4-mile event raised an impressive $641,000 to support programs that help local families thrive.

Combining fitness with philanthropy, the Turkey Trot remains a meaningful way for the community to give back on one of the busiest running days of the year.

Annual Tradition in Wash Park

The Turkey Trot is a cherished holiday tradition in Denver, bringing families, friends, and fitness enthusiasts together for a festive run.

This year, more than 10,000 participants took part, enjoying the scenic 4-mile course through Washington Park on a crisp Thanksgiving morning.

Adding extra excitement, this year’s trot featured its first-ever costume contest, which brought out creative outfits ranging from turkeys to superheroes.

The colorful display of costumes added a fun twist to the event, making it even more memorable for participants and spectators alike.

Fundraising Efforts and Impact

As Mile High United Way’s largest annual fundraiser, the Turkey Trot raised $641,000 to support critical programs.

The funds will help drive initiatives focused on early childhood education, academic success, and creating economic opportunities for families across Metro Denver.

In 2023, Mile High United Way invested $25.5 million into the community, assisting more than 668,700 people.

Fundraisers like the Turkey Trot are vital in sustaining these efforts, ensuring the nonprofit can continue making a significant impact.

Supporting Families and Youth

The event’s proceeds will benefit programs like HIPPY, which helps prepare preschoolers for kindergarten by equipping parents with essential educational tools.

Last year, HIPPY facilitators made over 2,400 home visits to support families in their child’s early learning journey.

Additionally, the funds will bolster the 211 call center, which connects thousands of Coloradans to critical resources such as housing, food, and financial assistance.

These programs ensure families in need can access the support they require to thrive throughout the year.

The Mile High United Way Turkey Trot continues to inspire and unite the Denver community.

Through running, giving, and volunteering, participants are making a lasting difference in the lives of countless families across Colorado.
