Colorado Pedestrian Killed on I-25 After Leaving Medical Center

A pedestrian was struck and killed on Interstate 25 in Lone Tree after leaving Sky Ridge Medical Center on Saturday night.

The incident disrupted traffic and led to the temporary closure of southbound lanes as authorities responded to the scene.

Circumstances Leading Up to the Incident

A man who was on a hold at HCA HealthONE Sky Ridge Medical Center left the facility on Saturday night.

Police officers saw him walking on the light rail tracks near Lincoln Station and advised the Regional Transportation District to shut down trains in the area.

The man turned back south but then attempted to cross I-25.

As he tried to navigate the busy highway, he was struck by vehicles passing by, resulting in a fatal crash.

Emergency Response and Investigation

Southbound I-25 at C470 was temporarily closed while first responders attended to the scene.

The injured pedestrian was quickly transported back to Sky Ridge Medical Center, but he was later pronounced deceased.

Lone Tree police and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department are jointly investigating the incident, focusing on how the man managed to leave the hospital and the sequence of events leading up to the crash.

They are working to understand why he attempted to cross such a busy highway and what factors contributed to the tragic outcome.
