After years of persistent concerns, a dangerous intersection in Aurora is finally receiving significant safety upgrades.

This long-awaited project aims to improve traffic flow and pedestrian safety for the surrounding community.

Years of Community Advocacy

Residents in the Cross Creek neighborhood have been pushing for safety changes at this intersection for years.

A traffic calming application was submitted in 2020 to address issues such as speeding and the lack of pedestrian-friendly infrastructure.

The intersection serves a community with over 400 homes and is a crossing point for children accessing the neighborhood pool during the summer.

Without proper crosswalks or signals, residents have faced daily challenges navigating the area safely, leading to ongoing calls for improvement.

Crash Statistics and Safety Concerns

From 2014 to 2023, Aurora police recorded 15 crashes at the intersection.

Among these incidents, two resulted in injuries, and one was a fatal motorcycle accident in 2022.

These accidents highlighted the need for safety measures to protect both drivers and pedestrians.

The absence of crosswalks and traffic signals contributed to unsafe conditions.

Pedestrians and vehicles often had to wait several minutes to cross or merge, increasing the risk of accidents and creating frustration for residents.

The Long-Awaited Overhaul

In October 2024, the city secured funding and began work on the intersection’s transformation.

Contractors have started construction on the foundation for a full traffic signal system that will control all four directions of traffic.

The addition of these traffic signals is expected to reduce crashes and improve safety for the entire community.

The project marks a critical step forward in addressing long-standing safety concerns in this rapidly growing area.
