Longmont, CO: Shop Loco – It’s crazy to do anything else! The Longmont Downtown Development Authority, in partnership with Advance Longmont partners Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce and Longmont Economic Development Partnership are coming together Monday afternoon to celebrate the launch of “Shop Loco”, a campaign designed to encourage Longmont residents to spend their shopping dollars locally during the holiday season and beyond.
When asked about the campaign, LDDA executive director Kimberlee McKee noted, “There has never been a better time to shop local, independent businesses. Recently, Downtown Longmont has added three clothing stores, a bike shop, kitchen store, toy store, skate shop and several home/gift shops, just to name a few. Keeping dollars in Longmont supports real people – our neighbors and friends – as well as pays dividends to the entire community.”
Through the holiday season, “Shop Loco” will highlight four shopping districts, kicking off Downtown with Monday’s celebration, and a variety of activities to encourage residents to shop downtown the following weekend November 24th through 27th. LDDA will host their annual tree lighting ceremony on Friday, launch the downtown gift guide, and celebrate Small Business Saturday on November 25th.
For their part, the Longmont Area Chamber of Commerce and Longmont Economic Development Partnership are planning a series of “Loco Shop Mobs” throughout the holiday season and beyond. The first “Loco Shop Mob” will coincide with the kickoff of the larger Shop Loco campaign and Small Business Saturday. During the Downtown Loco Shop Mob weekend November 24-27, Longmont residents will be encouraged to spend their holiday shopping dollars in Downtown Longmont and with every purchase at a participating Downtown retailer will be entered to win a Downtown Longmont prize package, which will be announced at the launch party on Monday.
The remaining planned holiday Loco Shop Mob locations will include: Village at the Peaks (Dec. 1-4), Harvest Junction (Dec. 8-11), and Prospect (December 15-18).
“We received a lot of great feedback and creative ideas for this year’s gift local campaign from the Longmont EDP Local Business Advisory Committee and are excited about some of the changes we’ve made this year to encourage shopping local during the holiday season and beyond,” stated Longmont EDP president/CEO Jessica Erickson. “And the partnership with our Advance Longmont Partners LDDA and the Chamber provides greater reach and visibility to support the campaign and Longmont’s local businesses.”
