The Boulder County Community Planning & Permitting Department is seeking public input on a proposed regional trail from Boulder to Erie.
Boulder County, in partnership with the city of Boulder and town of Erie, is evaluating options for the creation of a new soft-surface regional trail (known as the RTD Rail Regional Trail) connection along a rail corridor linking the city of Boulder and Erie.
“We believe this trail is an important regional connection in Boulder County, and we’re pleased that so many partners have come together to advance this possibility,” said Tonya Luebbert, Boulder County Regional trails planner and project manager.
The community will have the opportunity to participate in the virtual public meeting in August. To participate, community members can first visit the project website anytime through Aug. 31 to view project information and provide feedback through comment forms and surveys. Participants who would like to provide further feedback or ask questions may attend a virtual call-in Q&A sessions on Aug. 26 and 27.

Background
The proposed regional trail from Boulder to Erie was identified in the county’s regional trails prioritization process in 2003 and is eligible for funding through the countywide sales tax passed by voters in 2007.
The former Union Pacific Rail line corridor between Boulder and Erie is now owned by the Regional Transportation District. RTD is supportive of Boulder County using the rail corridor for a multi-use trail. A multitude of community groups are supportive of the proposal, including cyclists, runners, walkers, equestrians, commuters and recreationalists. Some residents have stated that they have sought for years to make this dream a reality.
To date, the county has worked with two main entities including a community working group, made up of residents representing a variety of interests, including adjacent property owners, cyclists, and equestrians; and a steering committee, made up of partnering agencies, including RTD, the town of Erie, and the city of Boulder. The project is now seeking to engage the broader community to understand what is most important to people and what concerns they have.
